#SeptemberBreak2015 In The Distance

Everything seems to be in the distance. I keep squinting my eyes off into the distance, hoping to discover something that might help in the moment. I’m trying to wait until I arrive at that point in the distance, but so many things seem hinged on that glimmering ray of hope off in the distance.

I am late to the party for  Susannah Conway’s August Break 2015, but I intend to follow the prompts through September. I’ll tag them #SeptemberBreak2015 — because I’m not quite ready to return to my self-directed schedules just yet. Additionally, I’ll be writing my responses as my camera lens has decided to malfunction after 4.5+ years of use. *Unless, of course, I find an old favorite to share.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Curves

The curves in my spine beg for chiropractic manipulation. The curves in my midsection beg me to back off of sugar and reform my walking habit. The curves in the road still lead me to my destination. The figurative curves in life cause me to reflect more on the journey and less on the destination. The upward curve of my lips on a day to day basis still form, whether forced or natural.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Real Life

Real life isn’t as glamorous and fun as I’d like. Real life gets in the way of my dreams and happiness at times — realizing that there’s so much pain and suffering in the world kind of saddens a person, honestly. But real life is all we have. I make the most of it on a daily basis, taking it one day at a time as a good friend has recommended to me time and again. Life is much easier when you take it one day at a time, anyway.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Two

Two eggs make an omelette. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Two heads are better than one. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. Two is a magical number. Many sayings include the number two. My two feet have carried me through various situations in life. My two hands have created countless meals. My two eyes have seen beauty and horror. My two ears have heard stories of all kinds. I value my pairs because I know others aren’t as lucky to maintain them.

These were so scrumptious. I really must make some chocolate-dipped shortbread cookies again soon.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Look Up

Every now and again I need to stop what I’m doing and look up. Sometimes it’s to see the clouds pass by through a clear blue sky. Other times it’s to see the stars sparkling in the darkness. Once in awhile, I’ll spot a beautiful rainbow after a storm. I might look up to see my surroundings — or perhaps the people in them. If we don’t stop and look up regularly, we’ll miss life in the moment.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Reading

I have been reading Hemingway books off and on for the past four years. Some weeks — and months– are profoundly busier than others. But when I have a quiet moment and the urge to dig into a good story, I crack open a book to immerse myself in a different world. I’m about a third of the way through For Whom the Bell Tolls, a reality that seems much harsher than my own. I haven’t sat down to see how Robert Jordan’s mission is going for quite some time, but I know they’ll all be there when I’m ready to sit down and devour a few more pages.
