#SeptemberBreak2015 Talisman

I don’t particularly have a trinket I carry with me for good luck. I used to bring my rosary received for my confirmation wherever I went, but it broke. I was quite upset, so I put it up to keep it safer. However, I do wear flowers in my hair near daily, so perhaps the flowers are my talismen.

I am late to the party for  Susannah Conway’s August Break 2015, but I intend to follow the prompts through September. I’ll tag them #SeptemberBreak2015 — because I’m not quite ready to return to my self-directed schedules just yet. Additionally, I’ll be writing my responses as my camera lens has decided to malfunction after 4.5+ years of use.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Earth

Our beautiful home. It produces nutritious food and fresh water for us. The dirt beneath our feet give us grounding. It looks like a sparkling blue and green gem from space. We search for other planets just like ours, but surely no other will ever take Earth’s place.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Smooth

“Smooth” makes me think about the ideal texture of skin and our society’s quest for beautiful, soft, smooth skin. It makes me think of a person who has a certain way about them — someone who can “smooth talk,” or perhaps a “smooth operator.” The expression “smooth as a baby’s bottom” also comes to mind.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Notebook

My notebook is my constant companion. I may not remember or build up the energy to write in it everyday, but I always have it with me for when I do write. I write out my concerns, which always seems to help relieve the stress and tension associated with them. I write down a list of 5 things I’m grateful for, 5 things I’ve accomplished, and 5 things that make me happy. I write a page and a half of whatever comes to mind. I always feel so much better after writing in my notebook — it’s like the act of writing it out makes everything seem so much brighter.

#SeptemberBreak2015 Breakfast

A cup of frozen chopped spinach sauted then scrambled with an egg. Sometimes a little cheese mixed in for some extra flavor. A dash of salt and a few sprinkles of black pepper. Add a piece of fruit, a cup of lemon water, and a mug of black coffee. I eat this on the regular.

A bowl of Chex or Kix with some vanilla almond milk. Not as much staying power as my regular, but a treat nonetheless.

Sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast, biscuits with butter and jam. Special breakfast foods make me smile.
